Hot stamping near Minneapolis is one of our specialties at Larkin Industries, and sometimes, we get a lot of questions about it. Sometimes, we hear many of the same questions over and over about this print finishing technique. So here are a few of the questions we hear the most and our responses.
Q: What is hot stamping?
A: Hot stamping is a print finishing process when an engraved image, a hot stamping die or type is heating up and then forced down onto a piece of paper or card stock (or another type of material). A marking foil is sandwiched in between. The ink from the foil is left behind where the die meets the paper, card stock or other material that is being used.
Q: How is hot stamping done?
A: Hot stamping is done generally using a metal die, which is usually made out of brass, copper or another type of hardened steel. Dies can also be made out of rubber or a similar material. The die will have the image engraved on it, and you need quite a bit of pressure to do the hot stamping. Guidelines vary but it is usually around 500 psi for every square inch of marked area.
Q: Why should I choose hot stamping?
A: There are several different reasons people choose hot stamping. One of the main reasons is because it is yet another way to make your direct mail piece, certificate, invitation, stationery, greeting cards, etc. pop and stand out from the rest. Hot stamping also works well for anti-counterfeiting purposes. It can also be used for packaging and for labeling purposes as well.
Q: Why should I choose Larkin Industries for hot stamping and other print finishing techniques?
